I’m probably doing this film a disservice considering I’ve thrown myself into a movie franchise spanning multiple decades yet this might be the first or second Mission Impossible movie I’ve ever seen.

That being said, the Tom Cruise Run™️ , swelling orchestral score, and jaw-dropping stunts more than compensate for the “don’t cut the red wire,” random exposition, and some cheesy moments.

THIS is action cinema. You can tell the people behind this have a serious passion and respect for the genre that you don’t see very often in major blockbusters/franchises. In an industry that’s constantly trying to deliver as little as possible to audiences to maximize profits, the team’s commitment to making an epic film is something that can’t go without acknowledgment.

Why can’t Hollywood adapt IP like they used to? It’s faithful to the books but brings a fresh perspective with a strong cast and tons of memorable/memeable moments. Strong nostalgia bias here though

Just using this movie as a way to log that I completed the SAO series as far as they’ve released as of 2025.

Just finished Alicization and War of Underworld. WOW, for a series that definitely has some weak story arcs, they absolutely KILLED IT with this last season. 

I still can’t talk about Eugeo…

Pretty good, especially the potatoes.

For a love story, there’s quite an emphasis on money and the irrelevance of love lol

My brain jumped out of my skull, performed 12 backflips, and jumped out of a 56 story window during the intro credit sequence when the police car POV started entering homes.

THATS when I knew I was in for a ride.

They had SO MUCH to work with:

- a LEGENDARY soundtrack

- rich lore

- extensive culture ranging from millennials to gen alpha

- inside jokes within the community (herobrine, the aether)

…and they leveraged NONE of it?!

This movie should have been done by the same guys who did the Lego movie because those guys GET IT. This should not have been live action.

This should have been a movie about growing up, facing your fears, the special bond between friends, and most importantly, the two week Minecraft phase.

This movie would have torn me apart and gotten an easy 5 stars if it was about the realization that you never know when it’s the last time you’ll play the game with your friends, all while an epic orchestral rendition of Mice on Venus played at a pivotal moment.

“A” Minecraft movie is what you get when a production is made by a bunch of execs who don’t understand the source material.

All that being said, it’s one of those movies where you can laugh and be entertained because it has its cheesy moments of being so bad, it’s good. After all, it’s still bittersweet fun to see something so close and dear to my childhood come to life on the big screen, even if it’s nowhere close to my expectations.
